SAWA Crafts Festival


 PRESS RELEASE

AGORA organizes SAWA crafts festival, funded by Embassy of Netherlands, during the period from 20 to 21 April in the Hellenic Foundation for Culture. The festival focuses on featuring artisans and artists who present a contemporary point of view of the traditional crafts. A group of artisans from different cities in Egypt such as Sinai, Luxor, Aswan, Asiut, Alexandria and Cairo will exhibit their work in the festival. The festival will be attended by a group of representatives from the cultural centers in Alexandria and other Alexandrian artists. The festival aims at supporting the crafts industry towards smart and sustainable growth. This activity is in context of AGORA's program "Arts for Economic Development".

SAWA Project is a series of crafts workshops with women from communities in Sinai, Luxor and Aswan. Each workshop will focus on developing contemporary designs inspired by traditional motives for a specific craft that this region is characterized with.

The first workshop took place in Aswan Heita Mountain in Fekra cultural Center with 20 women from Nubian and mountain communities. Women learned copper sheets work and wire jewelry in addition to a specialized wicker works workshop. The results are beautiful wire jewelry with colorful stones and colored wicker plates and bags.

The second workshop took place in Luxor Nubian cultural center with 22 women from Nubian communities. Women learned rearranging colored stones with copper to create home products and jewelry in addition to specialized leather works workshop. The third workshop is to take place end of March and beginning of April in Sinai.

Results of the workshops are being displayed in this festival.

ينظم مركز أجورا للفنون والثقافة بتمويل من سفارة هولندا مهرجان للحرف اليدوية التقليدية  في الفترة من 20 إلى 21 إبريل 2015 بالمركز الثقافي اليوناني في شارع فؤاد، ويركز المهرجان على عرض أعمال كل الفنانين والحرفيين الذين يقدمون تصميمات معاصرة للحرف التقليدية. يشارك بالمهرجان عدد كبير من الحرفيين من مختلف محافاظات مصر مثل سيناء، أسيوط، الأقصر، أسوان، الإسكندرية والقاهرة. المهرجان سوف يحضره مجموعة من ممثلين المراكز الثقافية في الإسكندرية وغيرهم من الفنانين السكندريين. ويهدف المهرجان إلى دعم صناعة الحرف اليدوية نحو النمو الذكي و المستدام . هذا النشاط في سياق برنامج أجورا "الفن من أجل التنمية الإقتصادية".

 

سوا هو عبارة عن سلسلة من الورش الحرفية مع نساء من مجتمعات في سيناء والأقصر وأسوان. وسوف تركز كل ورشة عمل حول تطوير تصميمات معاصرة مستوحاه من الأشكال التقليدية لحرفة معينة تتميز بها تلك المناطق.


أول ورشة تمت إقامتها في مركز فكرة الثقافي بجب عيطة بأسوان، مع 20 سيدة من مجتمع الجبل. تعلمت السيدات أعمال ألواح النحاس والحُلي بأسلاك النحاس بالإضافة إلى أعمال الجريد والخوص. النتائج كانت مجموعة من الحُلي بالأسلاك والخرز الملون و‘مال وشنط من الخوص الملون.

 

الورشة الثانية تمت في المركز الحضاري النوبي بالأقصر مع 22 سيدة من المجتمعات النوبية بالأقصر. تعلمت السيدات أعمال الخرز بالأسلاك النحاسية بالإضافة إلى ورشة متخصصة في الأعمال الجلدية. النتائج كانت من الحُلي الملون والإكسسوارات المنزلية، ومنتجات من الجلود الطبيعية الملونة. الورشة الثالثة سوف تقام في سيناء في آخر شهر مارس وأول شهر إبريل 2015.

 

وسيتم عرض نتائج هذه الورش في المعرض.
